Motivation to Move Interview

Fri, Jul 4, 2008

All, Hospice Fundraiser, Running

In terms of getting up to speed with the Hospice Fundraiser effort, I’m grateful to have had such a supportive family. My father, sister and I lived through a lot when mom was passing, and it’s been an incredible journey for each of us to move forward in our lives in as positive way as possible. Each of us are fairly driven people, and I think mom’s message had a big impact on the direction we’ve “driven” in the past year and a half.

Many reading this will know what Motivation to Move is because you might have come to this site from my father, Scott Smith’s, radio show. Other folks who are visiting may have no idea what MTM is. Essentially, Motivation to Move is a motivational show focused on fitness which has been a family endeavor from the beginning with the driving force and personality being my dad. I’d be remis, though, in not mentioning how much my mother had an impact on the show when she was alive. My sister, Carlyn, has been acting as the director of operations (and wearing many other hats), and I had the pleasure to design a version of the site.

Given the family history surrounding Motivation to Move, listeners to the show at the time were quite aware of what was going on with mom and our family. Due to this, we’ve felt an immense sense of support from the Motivation to Move community, and this made it feel great to interview with dad for the show a few days ago. Dad and I discussed the story with Mom, Hospice and the overall fundraiser and Marathon effort. It’s never easy to mentally relive some of the difficult moments, but it is all worth it in knowing that we are doing this for the right cause. We want to give back to those who assisted us in our time of need.

I’d like to thank my dad and sister for their endless support, and for helping get the word out about this fundraiser through Motivation to Move. I’d highly recommend checking out the site, the growing community as well as the show.
